Join Seabastion for a full day of learning, creating and connecting with like minded people.
You will learn to think about composition, sketching and how to create expressive gestural marks to capture the essence of your subject.
Participants will be guided through the art making process and you will take home your very own bee painting.
This workshop is great for beginners as we all work step by step through painting the same image.
Advanced students are given an opportunity to work on their own images maintaining a loose expressive style.

Materials:
Note: The techniques used in this workshop are adaptable to both oil and acrylic paint so please use whichever you like
Paint
- Titanium White
- Yellow Ochre
- Ultramarine Blue
- Burnt Umber
- Cadmium Red (or medium red or cadmium red hue)
- Cadmium Yellow (or cadmium yellow hue)
Brushes:
3 – 5 medium (10mm - 25mm width) plus 1 large (30mm - 50mm width)
Filbert and/or flat bright shape
Supports:
Canvas, Panel or Board x 1 (or if you a super speedy bring a spare)
size: approx 50 cm x 40cm - 60 x 50cm
Palette, at least A4 size, flat
Rags both for painting and clean up
Apron: It’s going to get messy!!!
Acrylic Painters only: Water jar
Oil painters only: Solvent jar with a lid
I will provide odourless solvent and medium
Please do not bring turps, oil painters use odourless solvent/babyoil/other non toxic paste for clean up and or wrap brushes to clean at home.

- There are two Christian Colleges on Bridgman Drive, you will pass Gold Coast Christian College first, then HILLCREST Christian College.
- Workshop participants should park in the top pick-up carpark (second driveway if driving up the hill from the East/motorway).
- Go in the front gate of this carpark under the electronic sign, down the stairs to the front of the resource centre, turn right, go down the stairs to the astro turf courtyard.
- Art rooms are the first classrooms on the right (room 30).
FAQ’s
Do I need experience?
No, Seabastion will walk you through the painting process step by step so it is suitable for all levels. She aims to inspire and challenge everyone at any stage of their creative journey.
What will I learn?
You will learn how to lay out your composition to engage your audience. Using “alla prima" techniques (wet on wet), you will create expressive artworks and learn to direct spontaneity whilst maintaining a likeness.
What do I need to bring?
Lunch - You need to keep your energy levels up so don't forget your lunch, afternoon tea will be provided.
Materials - Material list will be sent out to you prior to the workshop.
Demonstrations are in Oils and Acrylic which should I use?
Either or both! There will be a separate demonstration for each medium so use what ever you are most comfortable with or whichever you would like to learn!
Can my uber talented son/daughter attend?
While this workshop is aimed at adults we welcome any senior students who share a passion for art... uber talented or otherwise.
